MNO Risk Signals

Once you have verified a mobile number, you can now make smarter risk decisions using the Mobile Network Operator’s knowledge about the user, their account and their mobile device.

BETTER KNOWLEDGE MEANS BETTER DECISIONS

Verifying a mobile number is just the beginning. What if you could understand the risk behind it – instantly and invisibly?

Most fraud prevention tools rely on basic checks that miss deeper behavioral and network-level threats. With MNO Risk Signals, you can go beyond verification to get real-time insights into device and user history and live activity to help you evaluate risk, all powered by real-time mobile network data.

The result? Better decision making, lower fraud – streamline the UX for your good customers while keeping out the bad guys.

Why It Matters

Smarter insights that help you say “Yes” to the right users – and “No” to fraud.

  • Enrich your risk engine
  • Build richer, more reliable profiles for mobile users based on real-time, telco-grade identity signals, not fragile data such as cookies and device fingerprinting.

  • Catch more fraud in real time
  • Silently collect risk signals and deny fraudsters automatically, or apply friction where needed – before damage is done.

  • Detect & block repeat offenders
  • Uncover links between users, devices and IPs to help block repeat fraudulent behaviour and prevent coordinated attacks.

IDlayr SNA

How it works

MNO Risk Signals give you a deeper look at the user, their account and the mobile device that are behind the mobile number – enabling you to seamlessly integrate real-time risk signalling into your existing verification or onboarding flow. Here’s how:

  • You submit the mobile number to IDlayr via API (previously verified with IDlayr Secure SNA).
  • IDlayr connects to the mobile network operator for real-time risk indicators tied to the number, the user account and the device.
  • IDlayr can provide a range of signals, depending on the user, including: phone ownership, SIM history, porting, roaming, age verification, name & address match and more.
  • IDlayr provides either a processed risk score or a set of individual risk signals.
  • You are able to make real-time risk decisions, stepping up only where needed without impacting low-risk users.
  • All interactions are purely via API, so there is no user impact unless a risk is flagged.

Traditional Approaches

MNO Risk Signals

Easily manipulated by attackers Reduced reliance on fragile data like cookies & device fingerprinting Limited visibility into mobile risk Catches risks that traditional models can miss (porting, SIM Swap, fake numbers) Lacks Telco-Level Identity assurance Real-time risk assessment not dependent on cookies or incognito mode Can require user interaction to build a risk profile Adds another layer of identity assurance without adding user friction
